To keep the feed focused on what matters to organics and composting professionals, each article must match at least one organics term, plus at least one financial or regulatory term. A handful of highly specific terms pass automatically.
The regulatory category exists because policy news — draft rules, agency guidance, local mandates — is squarely relevant to operators but rarely uses the vocabulary of money. Requiring a financial term alone would filter it out.
Matching is done on each article's headline and the short summary supplied by its RSS feed, not the full article text. Terms match as substrings, so compost also catches composting.
Articles are also screened by title: award announcements, personnel moves, and similar non-substantive items are excluded — unless the title itself contains a composting or organics term, in which case the article is included regardless.
An article satisfies the second half of the filter with either a financial term above or a regulatory term here.
These are specific enough to always pass regardless of other filters.
Because filtering reads only the headline and RSS summary, a relevant article whose short blurb happens to contain no financial or regulatory language can be missed — an operational story such as a municipality launching a new organics collection route, for example.
Publication cadence also varies by source. BioCycle posts in batches roughly every two weeks rather than daily, so the feed can be quiet between them even though it is checked every morning.
